Sophie Cherrier

Flute

Sophie Cherrier studied at the Nancy Regional Conservatoire under Jacques Mule, and then at the Paris Conservatoire, where she was awarded the Premier Prix in flute (class of Alain Marion) and chamber music (class of Christian Lardé). She joined the Ensemble Intercontemporain in 1979.

She has taken part in numerous premiere performances, including Memoriale by Pierre Boulez (recorded by Erato), Esprit rude/Esprit doux by Elliott Carter (Erato), and Chu Ky V by Ton-Thât Tiêt. Sophie Cherrier has recorded Sequenza I by Luciano Berio (Deutsche Grammophon), ….explosante fixe….(DG) and the Sonatine for flute and pia o by Pierre Boulez (Erato), Imaginary Sky-lines for flute and harp by Ivan Fedele (Adès), Jupiter and La Partition du ciel et de l’Enfer by Philippe Manoury (Composers of Today collection).

She has appeared with the Hallé Orchestra of Manchester, the Cleveland Orchestra, LA Philharmonic, London Sinfonietta and the Berlin Philharmonic. Sophie Cherrier has been a professor at the Paris Conservatoire since 1998 and has also given numerous masterclasses in France and abroad.
