Les Surprises

«Delicate, elegant without being straight-laced, expressive as intense as impoverished in pomposity, radiant, dynamic rhythm: we await The Surprises’ next concert with impatience.” (Alain Cochard Concert Classic).

Founded by Juliette Guignard and Louis-Neol Bestion of Camboulas in 2010, the ensemble Les Surprises transmits, through a variety of original programmes, its passion for 17th and 18th century music. A geometrically varied ensemble metamorphosing from chamber ensemble to orchestral formation, takes its name from Jean-Philippe Rameau’s opera-ballet, Les Surprises de L’Amour. The ensemble Les Surprises recorded its first disc in 2013 for the Ambronay Editions label, which was highly acclaimed in the national and international press. In 2014, Les Surprises received the Révélation Musicale prize awarded by the theatre, music and dance professional critics’ association, a prize attributed for the first time to a baroque music ensemble in 50 years of prize-winners. The ensemble performs in numerous festivals across Europe: Musical Week of Quimper, Festival of Saint Michel-en-Thiérache, Festival of Saint-Riquier, Festival Monteverdi (Cremona), Germany, and Palestine as well as others. The ensemble benefits from support from the town of Bordeaux and the General Council of La Gironde.

Sandra Latour, traverso

Sandra Latour started her studies in the Conservatory of Lyon then continued in the Conservatory of Boulogne-Bilancourt. To round off her training, she worked beside José Daniel Castellon at the Haute Ecole de Musique of Lausanne where she obtained her orchestral musician’s diploma with the highest level of distinction. A baroque music enthusiast, she devotes herself also to the traverso and perfected this beside Serge Saitta then with Barthold Kuijken at the Conservatory of Brussels where she obtained her Masters with distinction.

Sandra particularly enjoys chamber music. She regularly performs with the Trio Art/Miss and the baroque ensemble Les Surprises as well as with other baroque and modern ensembles. Parallel to this, Sandra Latour teaches flute in the Conservatory of Lausanne and teaches traverso in the Conservatory of Lyon. She also assists José Daniel Castellon at the Haute Ecole de Musique of Lausanne.
