L’Orchestre de Chambre de Genève

L’Orchestre de Chambre de Genève is an ensemble prone to excellence in all of its repertories, from baroque to contemporary music, permitting the public to discover little-played works in concert halls. Frequently alternating from the use of ancient instruments to modern ones makes L’OCG unique of its kind.

Numerous conductors and soloists of renown have contributed to form the identity and the originality of the L’OCG since its creation in 1992, such as Armin Jordan, Ivor Bolton, Rinaldo Alessandrini, Thomas Rösner, Natalie Dessay, Sandrine Piau,

Véronique Gens, Andreas Scholl, Patricia Kopatchinskaja, Aldo Ciccolini and many others. Spurred on by Michael Hofstetter, successor of Thierry Fischer and Lev Markiz, L’OCG took its place on the musical scene in Geneva and in Switzerland and brought itself up into the ranks of top level orchestras. Conductor and pianist David Greilsammer followed the dedicated work of his predecessors and at the same time developed new innovative projects. As of the 2013-2014 season, Arie van Beek, guest conductor of the last three seasons, was named Artistic and Musical Director, to consolidate and develop his own trait on Geneva territory.

Every year L’OCG presents a season of concerts in Geneva, principally in the Bâtiment des Forces Motrices, and is often recorded by Espace 2 (Radio). As well as the evening concerts, L’OCG closely collaborates with different cultural partners such as la Ville de Genève, le Grand Théâtre de Genève, le Concours de Genève, la Haute Ecole de Musique, l’Opéra de Chambre de Genève, Geneva choirs and l’Orchestre des Pays de Savoie. A few seasons ago, L’OCG began new joint efforts, notably with Les Festivals Archipel, Electron et Antigel, La Cie Gilles Jobin and Le Conservatoire Populaire de Musique, Danse et Théâtre.

L’OCG also works with Le Concours de Genève for recording discs offered to prize-winners including István Várdai, Louis Schwizgebel-Wang and Gilles Vonsattel. In 2012, L’OCG, conducted by David Greilsammer, recorded a disc entirely devoted to Mozart under the prestigious Sony Classical label.
