6Sense, sextuor de flûtes

6Sense is the brand new Dutch flute sextet consisting of young talented flutists who individually have different characters and artistic qualities. Together they form a dynamic musical ensemble. 6Sense has a great variety of repertoire, with a mix of original compositions and (their own) arrangements from all musical style periods. Enthusiastically, motivated and professionally they play all the instruments from the flute family, from piccolo flute to bass flute. In this way they show their big diversity to the audience. Last June, 6Sense made their Radio debut in ‘Opium op 4’. 6Sense was initiated by the Netherlands Flute Academy (NeFlAc) and is coached by Emily Beynon, principal flute of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra and artistic leader of NeFlAc.

THE musicians

After finishing her masterdegree (2012) with distinction in the class of Pirmin Grehl in Luzern, Rieneke Brink is working as a freelance flutist. As an extra-player she collaborate with various orchestras such as the Radio Filharmonisch Orkest, the Koninklijk Concertgebouworkest, the Nederlands Blazersensemble and the Marinierskapel. Rieneke is part of the windtrio Dividivi3 and she is co-initiator of the bicycle orchestra ‘Ensemble PEP!’. ‘During my studies I have been playing in the streetsymphonyorchestra Ricciotti Ensemble’. Inspired by this special way of bringing music to all kind of publics I invented Ensemble PEP!; with ten musicians we go on tour by bike, bringing our instruments and playing all kinds of music wherever we come.’

Emeline Dessi left her native France to study with Benoit Fromanger at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague. She accomplished her studies with a master diploma (2014) at Codarts, the Conservatory of Rotterdam in the class of Juliette  Hurel. Emeline realises beautiful arrangements for flute ensembles and is a fervent defender of contemporary music and supporter of young international composers. She plays with divers orchestras like Rotterdam Philharmonic and het Gelders Orkest, ensembles and as soloist in the Netherlands and abroad. ‘From my point of view, music is a great tool, an international language, to communicate and develop compassion. Music helps to express the inexpressible’

After finishing her master degree (2014) at the Conservatory of Amsterdam with Vincent Cortvrint and Kersten McCall Rozemarijn van Egeren started a.o. to teach. ‘Every single week it’s a huge pleasure for me to work with children from all the layers of society. It gives me so much pleasure to let the children experience making  music, and see them enjoy the music they are making.’ Rozemarijn is playing in different orchestras and ensembles, amongst others with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, National Youth Orchestra, a flute-harp duo, the Camenae Collective and she is leading the Neflac ensemble

In 2015, Linda Speulman completed her Master Studies at the Royal Academy of Music in London. She studied with William Bennett, Kate Hill and Patricia Morris. During her time in London Linda played with the RAM Symphony and Opera Orchestra, Arch Sinfonia and Aldwych Sinfonia. Before this, Linda played with The Arnhem Philharmonic and was part of the National Youth Orchestra of the Netherlands (NJO) for two consecutive years. “Playing with the NJO allowed me to work with fantastic conductors and musicians, making music at a very high level.”

Marjolein Vermeeren recently completed the Master of Arts with distinction (2015) at the Royal Academy of Music in London, receiving the DipRAM award for an outstanding final recital. She studied with Karen Jones, William Bennett, Patricia Morris (piccolo) and Lisa Beznosiuk (baroque flute). As a freelance flautist she has played with professional orchestras in The Netherlands and Belgium and currently she is principal flute of the Arch Sinfonia in London. Marjolein is also a conductor and arranger for windbands in The Netherlands. “Having grown up in Limburg (south of The Netherlands) I was brought up on windband music. Being an arranger and conductor for windbands gives me a lot of extra musical insight as well as pleasure and satisfaction to share my musical knowledge with enthusiastic amateur players.”

Marije Weenink currently studies at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague with Jeroen Bron. She has won several prizes and has played in multiple orchestra’s such as ‘Het Residentie Orkest’  and ‘Het Ballet Orkest.’ Marije also played in several chamber music groups, for example the innovative chamber music ensemble ‘Ongestreken’.  ”One of the biggest satisfactions for me is to make people enjoy the music, especially people that are not familiar with classical music. It’s amazing to see how music can touch people.”
