Cello

Maria Cecilia Berioli graduated in cello with first class honours, she then went on to specialize in Chamber Music (DePeyer, DeRosa, Grosgurin..) and Cello under S.Palm and A.Bonucci. Special Prize in Violoncello at the National MusicAcademy of S. Cecilia in Rome. She also was a bursar with the “Hindemith Foundation” Blonay-Vevey . She won first prize –solo Cello- at the AMACalabria Competition; she also won first prize at the “Ottocento Festival”.

Winner of the OPERAIMAIE 2006 prize “CDof the year,” with her performance of F. Casavola’s intermezzi. She has been firstcello in various different orchestras (Solisti di Perugia; SymphoniaPerusina, FilarmoniciUmbri, Gruppo di Roma, Perugia SymphonyOrchestra, FestivalSinfonietta, and Umbria Symphony Orchestra. From 1995 to 2000 she worked regularly with the RAI NationalSymphonyOrchestra.

She has been ConcertinoCellist at Bologna’s Teatro Comunale. Playing both as a soloist and in various chamber music ensembles, she has toured all the Europe, Asia, Africa and America. She has recorded for the SonyMusic, BMG, BrilliantClassics, Quadrivium, Dynamic, Tactus, UmbriaJazzRecord, and Camerata Tokyo labels. She is also Artistic Director and cellist of the UmbriaEnsemble.
